Off to the Races

My husband, daughter, and I went to the races with my father's retiree group recently.  It is an outing they do once a year and is always fun.  We have a great buffet lunch, study our race books, and wager (small) dollars on some of the races.  We never win very much but most of the time we are either even or ahead a few dollars.

My daughter and I like to go down to the edge of the racetrack and watch the horses being loaded into their gates.  The horses are so fun to look at.  They are in great shape from all of their training and look so slim and athletic.  Several years ago, my daughter and I went down to the track and were watching the loading of the horses when all of a sudden there was a big commotion in the loading gate area.  One of the horses did not want to be confined to the gate so he started bucking and jumping and was quickly backed out of the gate.  He continued to act up and the jockey (with some help) got off of the horse and refused to run the race with that horse.  They finally pulled that horse from the race and the race commenced.  But that was not the last of it.  As we were watching all of the commotion, an ambulance came up the track and people started surrounding a pregnant woman who had been watching the horses.  She was sitting on the ground and was taken away.  We found out later she had fallen but ended up being okay.

Exciting times at the racetrack!
